Pictures of PRactice: Stories from the field
A core component of Agency by Design Oakland is our Teacher Fellowship, a yearly cohort of Oakland educators who participate in a professional learning community focusing on maker-centered learning and teacher-led inquiry. Over the course of their fellowship, each teacher designs an inquiry question and completes action research in the classroom. Our #pictureofpractice series makes visible the thinking and rigorous work educators engage in and provides an archive for how Oakland educators are experimenting with Agency by Design and maker-centered learning ideas. What does teacher-led classroom inquiry look like? Check out the Pictures of Practice below.
Stories of maker empowerment
Rather than provide a blueprint for creating a maker space or purchasing tools, we focus on the thinking and learning that takes place in maker-centered contexts. Agency by Design Oakland team members provide professional development support through workshops, coaching, and grants to schools and youth-serving organizations. We are committed to operating through a lens of equity, and we aim to bring this lens to all of our work. It is our priority to serve underserved student populations and communities of color.
