WORKSHOPS :

  • Developing Empathy within our Learners

As adults, it is our job to have our students “perspective-take” in order to develop empathy. Experience a simple yet powerful thinking routine in this workshop and modify it in real time to bring it alive with your students.

    Thinking Routine Primer

Thinking routines are a great way to differentiate learning in any content area.  In this workshop, educators will experience at least two different thinking routines that they can immediately use with their students.

    Systems Thinking 101

Our world is full of systems that have been intentionally designed to produce certain outcomes. We will explore how examining these systems more closely can cultivate empowered learners who can then tweak/hack/change these systems for greater equity.

  • The Power of Play

Play is integral to developing a multitude of asset based skills such as collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking. How might you incorporate play into your classroom or school site?

    Making as Healing

As educators, we are often told to cultivate joy and healing in our young people, yet we don’t do it for ourselves.  How might we increase our own capacity for joy and healing alongside our students?

    Intro to Designing for Belonging

Explore the levers of belonging and see your classroom as a system. Identify a routine or ritual you can redesign for greater belonging?

  • Foundations of Maker-Centered Learning

Experience the power of maker-centered learning in this hands-on workshop that will introduce you to the why and how of MCL.

Scaffolding for Agency: Maker-Centered Learning Instructional Strategies

How might a student-centered and distributed learning model cultivate agency in your learners? Educators will walk away with practical tools and plan next steps to do with their students.

Semester Series

4 sessions | Coaching available | 2-4 CEU

OVERVIEW:

These short professional development series are for beginners as well as those with some experience in the focal area. The length of the series allows for depth as we combine teacher-led inquiry with coaching so teachers can align/merge their creativity and agency within the context of district demands.

SAMPLE PROGRAMS:

Making Thinking Visible

Practical tools and strategies to draw out the inner worlds of students and make their thinking visible.

Designing for Belonging

Understand the design principles of routines, rituals and space that create places for our students to connect, grow and shine.

Making x Ethnic Studies x You

Transform traditional academic tasks within any content area by incorporating the pedagogical principles of Ethnic Studies and arts-integration to deepen engagement and comprehension.

  • Student Talk x Arts Integration

This series uses arts-integrated strategies and tools that promote student discourse across all content areas.

    Cultivating a Repair Mindset

The concept of repair is explored as a pathway to healing - not just objects, but ourselves and our designed world.  Educators will use thinking routines that help students to see objects as systems that can be repaired or repurposed.
